Carmilla Blanche Jones Ritchey

Of Otego

Carmilla Blanche Jones Ritchey, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Mon. Oct. 3, 2016, surrounded by her family.  She was born on Nov. 28, 1934 in Glens Falls, NY, the daughter of Rev. Clarence E. & M. Blanche (Scaife) Jones.  She has lived in Otego since 1943.   She was a 1952 graduate of Otego Central School and a 1953 graduate of Delhi Agricultural & Technical Institute.  She was married on July 5, 1958 to Harold E. Ritchey at the First Christian Church of Otego. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Otego since 1945 and served in the church as teacher, secretary/treasurer, church clerk, and attended as a lifelong member. She was an Executive Secretary at Wilber National Bank in Oneonta for 6 years, Tax Collector for the Unatego Central School 19 years and sold tickets at the school sporting events for 30 years.  She was secretary for the Otego Town Planning Board for 7 years, Tax Collector for the Town of Otego 10 years and a Trustee of the Otego Evergreen Cemetery Assoc.  She took great pleasure attending the Oneonta Yankees/Tigers baseball games.  It was a joy for her to play “Mexican Train” and would encourage everyone to play with her.  She enjoyed researching the genealogies on the Scaife and Ritchey families.  She is survived by her daughter, Vickey S. Gregory of Afton; 3 sons, Rickey J. (Deborah); Nickey D. (Shelley); & Mickey R. (Kathleen) all of Otego; 8 grandchildren, Amanda Ritchey (John Jones), Stacey (Barrett) Smith, Douglas Ritchey, Justin (Katherin) Ritchey, Sarah Gregory, Scott Gregory, Kelley Ritchey, Megan Ritchey, 3 great grandchildren; Brycyn and Brynleigh Smith & Paislee Gregory; Harold Ritchey of Schenevus; 3 sisters; Kathryn Jones of Queensbury, NY, Grace Fabian, Douglasville, PA, & Mary Christine (Edward) of New Oxford, PA; a step brother, Bryan G. (Shirley) Burtch, Denton, TX, special aunt, Audrey Scaife, Mansfield, PA; 7 nieces, 8 nephews, several great nieces, great nephews, and special friends, Cindy, Beverly, Alyce, Charlotte, “Tiny”, Flora, Jackie, Rhoda and many other cousins and friends at church.  She was predeceased by her mother, father, brother John Paul Jones, sisters Martha Mai Jones & Arloween Keller, and her step-mother, Lillian (Scaife) Burtch Jones.

A Life-Appreciation Service will be held at the First Christian Church of Otego, 704 County Highway 6, Otego, NY on Mon. October 10 at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Keith VanDewerker officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the First Christian Church of Otego, Mission Fund, c/o Irmabelle Sheldon, 149 Sheldon Rd. Otego, NY 13825.  There will be no calling hours.  Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.  Arrangements by the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home 123 Main Street Unadilla.
