Steven Eugene Hollars, 63 of Quad Cities, Ill. and Unadilla, NY sadly left us on Friday Sept. 29, 2023 after a long hard battle against cancer. He was born on Jan. 23, 1960 in Leominster, Massachusetts to Paul and Sandra (Simon) Hollars.
Steve spent many years as a landscaper, then joining the Labor Union Local 309. He loved his job as a pipe liner and was employed by Murphy Brothers, LSI and then leading to a proud career as a Pipeline Inspector for CIS. His job took him traveling across the country, from New York, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, North Dakota, Oklahoma and as far as Texas. Steve made many new friendships and shared many new laughs. At home, Steve spent time and used his abilities to build and start Muddy Waters Race Track in East Molina, Illinois, worked as a mechanic with his son and was a mentor to many young riders.
He also was a little league and softball coach for young men. Steve was an avid softball player that participated in an array of traveling tournaments. When not on the ball field, he spent many hours in the camp or the woods hunting with friends. He loved his visits to the Casinos and looking for yard sales and auctions on weekends. Steve had the unique ability to tear down and rebuild small engines, giving them all a second life.
Steve is survived by his best friend, then wife of 13 years, Diane Wicks, 2 daughters, Joie (Jeremey Haskins) Hollars, Jill (chad) Boyd, son, Nicholas (Samantha) Hollars, 2 step sons, Jason (Rachael) Wicks, Jeremy Wicks, a step daughter, Danielle (Tab/TJ) Winner, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his father, Paul Hollars, brother, Barry Hollars, 2 sisters, Karen Meehan and Linda (Brent) Prior and several nieces and nephews, all meaning the world to him.
A Celebration of Life for Steve’s family and friends will be held on Sat. Nov. 11, 2023 at the Colona American Legion, Colona, Illinois from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be Steve’s favorite Franks Pizza, a round cake representing the Circle of Life and asking everyone wanting to wear his favorite color “neon green.” This celebration will be a time to reflect on Steve and share his sense of humor with laughter, filled with the best of memories.
