UNADILLA, NY

 

Richard D. Banta of Unadilla passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Chestnut Park, Oneonta, following a short illness.  Richard was born on June 5, 1937,  to George D. Banta II and Helene Jensen Banta in Mineola, NY. Dick grew up on the family farm in Unadilla Center, and after graduating from Unadilla Central School in 1955, became a full partner in Banta Bros. dairy farm with his older brother, George III.  Although Dick never married, he was devoted to his many nephews and nieces.  In addition to working with the Holstein herd on the farm, Dick enjoyed riding horses, and was an avid hunter and ATV enthusiast. Dick is survived by his sister, Jane Winchester, of Mount Upton, nephew, Randy (Victoria) Banta, Unadilla, niece, Connie Marcus, at home, niece, Veleda Banta, Unadilla, nephew, Mike (Donna, Megan & Callie) Winchester, Mount Upton, nephew, Sherman Winchester, Georgia, nephew, Jeff Winchester, East Meredith,  niece, Sandy Winchester, Mount Upton, nephew, Allen Banta, North Carolina, niece, Kathryn (Don) Reinhardt, North Carolina, niece, Marilyn (Greg) Pettys, Rhode Island, nephew, Nick Banta, nephews & nieces of the Peterson family, great-niece, Barbara (Don) Pierce, Unadilla, great-nephew, Gabriel Marcus, North Carolina, and great-nephew, Thomas Banta, Colorado. Dick was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and sisters-in-law, George III (Jean) Banta and Robert (Shirley) Banta and one sister and brother-in-law, Helene (Richard) Peterson.  Dick was also predeceased by four special relatives, nephew, Clifford Banta, niece, Peggy Jean Banta, niece, Debra (Winchester) Sherman, and great-nephew, James Banta.
