Ralph L. Place, 81 of North Franklin passed away Sat. Nov. 21, 2020 unexpectedly at A.O. Fox Hospital. Ralph was born on Oct. 16, 1939 in Sidney Center, the son of the late Ralph & Dorothy Place of Florida. Ralph married Joan E. Grant on April 27, 1968, Joan passed away Dec. 2, 2008. He retired from Hartwick College in 2000, where he worked for 10 years in maintenance. Ralph was also employed at The Daily Star for 21 years working in the mailroom and delivering papers. Prior to working at The Daily Star, Ralph worked at Scintilla Plant in Sidney, where he met his wife. He was a veteran of the US Army, stationed at Fort Drum and Fort Devens. Ralph enjoyed his family and liked to joke around a lot especially picking on his younger sister, Nancy. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching and rooting for the NY Yankees & NY Giants, working on word finds, puttering around the house & yard, bird watching, especially cardinals, watching reruns of MASH & The Walton’s. Ralph was hardworking, kind, & considerate. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family & all that knew him.
Ralph is survived by his daughter, Kimberly A. Place & her partner, Dan Howe, Masonville, a son, Kevin C. Place & his wife, Tracy Place, Peoria , Ill. And their 6 children of Peoria, Ill., Kamille Moser, Keenan Moser, Khiel Moser, Elijah Place, Ellen Place & Ercilla Place, sister, Nancy Green and her partner of Sidney, sister-in-law, Phyllis Place, FL, brother-in-law, Bob Green, Sidney and also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ralph was predeceased by his brother, Richard Place and sister, Carol Place.
Per Ralph’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. He wished to be cremated & ashes buried with his wife in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in memory of Ralph Place to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis, TN 38105-9959 (stjude.org/givehope).
