Matthew E. Goodrich

Matthew E. Goodrich, of Oneonta, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 26, 2026. He was predeceased by his father, Earl D. Goodrich. Matt is survived by his mother, Rita J. Goodrich; his sister Amy (Brian) Goodrich; his children, Jaclin, Andrew, and Cortnie; and his grandchildren, Elora, Gabriel, and Asha. He will also be missed by his aunts, uncles, and the many friends whose lives he touched.

Matt earned his bachelor's degree from SUNY Oneonta and went on to build a diverse and accomplished career. He served as a corrections officer for Otsego County, owned and operated Goodrich Fleet and Auto, and worked as an independent contractor for A&D Transport. Yet his most fulfilling work came from pursuing his lifelong passion for Taekwondo.

A dedicated martial artist, Matt studied Taekwondo from a young age and remained devoted to the art throughout his life. He worked closely with his mentor, Grandmaster Suk Jun Kim, and under his guidance not only earned the rank of fourth-degree black belt but was able to fulfill his dream of opening his own dojang; Oneonta Taekwon-Do. As Master Goodrich, he shared not only his skills but also his discipline, knowledge, and love of the art with students of all ages.

Matt was also a devoted son, father, and friend who opened his home not only to both of his parents during their times of need but also to his children, grandchildren, and his friends. He could always be counted on to help out. He will be remembered by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church (The Red Door Church), located at 2 Walling Ave, Oneonta, NY 13820.
