Maria Oatman Obituary

Maria Luisa Oatman, born Maria Luisa Bonhomme-Dieppa, widow of Albert Oatman and former wife of Tim Keys, Passed Into The Light on Monday, Sept 5, 2022 just before 9am at her home in Unadilla, NY  after a long illness.

Maria was born on Feb 27, 1941 in Utuado, Puerto Rico. Utuado is the home of The Ceremonial Grounds for The indigenous Tribe known as The Tainos.

Maria grew up in Puerto Rico with her Father Juan Bonhomme, Mother Mary Bonhomme- Vasquez She also spent a lot of time with her Great Grandmother  Mama Chilla Vasquez, a midwife and herbalist who was the midwife at Maria's birth at the age of 100.

A favorite memory of Maria's was accompanying her mother Mary who rode on horseback as she traveled to teach in various one room school houses in the Campo of Puerto Rico.

At age 12 Maria moved with her parents to the borough of Manhattan in New York City where she attended The Holy Name of Jesus School on W 97th St, in Manhattan. Later she moved with her family to the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. She graduated from The Wilfred Academy and became both a licensed manicurist and hairdresser.

In May of 1960 Her Pride and Joy Daniel J Klok was born in the Bronx. Soon after she returned to Puerto Rico to live until 1985 when she returned to Brooklyn along with her son Danny to live with Tim Keys. They moved upstate in 1999 to the Village of Unadilla where she has lived ever since. In 2012 Maria married Albert Oatman and was with him until Albert died of a heart attack in 2019. At that time Tim Keys became her Caregiver to help Maria through the last part of her life.

Maria was very outgoing and often entertained her family and friends with her viewpoint on current events going on her various jobs and daily encounters, regaling friends and family alike as she described her cats and dogs and the great adventures that they all experienced together.  Never a dull moment when she was around.

Maria was born with The Gift of Second Sight with a keen ability to be psychic as well as having insights into Life Beyond The Veil. She often saw Angels and Spirit Guides and will surely be reuniting now with Her Friends and Family who have passed before her including her parents as well as her son Danny Klok, who died of cancer in 2002.

On Monday September 19th, there will be a Funeral Mass offered at Sacred Heart Church in Sidney at 10 a.m. with Interment to follow at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Unadilla. Afterwards there will be A Celebration of Maria’s Life at 12 Hopkins St in Unadilla for her Family and Friends.
