Marcia Lepik Obituary

Marcia V. Lepik

May 14, 1949 ~ March 3, 2024

Marcia (Bezmen) Lepik passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Marcia was born to William and Mary (Karaway) Bezmen on May 14, 1949 in Mineola, NY. She grew up on Long Island and was so fortunate this was during the time when childhood was full of adventure. Making fun for ourselves with friends and mostly being outdoors exploring nature.

SUCO brought her to Oneonta, NY from 1967-1971. She loved every moment being off Long Island so much that she never left the area after that. She got a job teaching summer school in Sidney, NY the summer she graduated with her undergraduate degree. That is how she met her future husband, Madis “Mate” Lepik when he was visiting his Marine Corps buddy helping a young family build their home. Marcia and Mate were married on October 16, 1971 at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church and she never doubted that their life together would be full of good times. Together they raised 3 beautiful daughters, enjoyed simple times with family and friends, and truly enjoyed spending time together.

Marcia thoroughly enjoyed the years she taught at Unadilla Elementary School. She was determined to make a difference in so many of her student's lives. She gave them a taste of the wonder of science, the power of books, and encouraged them to try to always keep an open mind in their thinking. Not only did she enjoy her students at the school, but the very special people she worked with while there. She touched so many lives in our community and had many friends from her teaching years.

After retirement Marcia continued to be active in the community. She joined many dance classes to stay active, traveled with Senior Tour Groups to see much of the country, loved watching live performances supporting local theater companies as well as traveling to see shows that interested her, and took many Continuing Education Classes to enrich her life. She absolutely loved seeing her grandchildren in anything they participated in whether sports, theater or animals. Everywhere she went she made new friends and continued to influence lives.

She did not regret the direction her life took off in. Moving away to a country setting from where she grew up on Long Island was such a rewarding turn that her life took for her. Everyone should live a life like she did with nothing to feel badly about when it is done. It was a life well lived spent with family and friends and great pride in all she accomplished.

She is survived by her husband Madis “Mate” Lepik; her daughters and sons-in-law Kim and Dustin Sperry of Oneonta, NY, Kirsten and Tim “T.J.” Gargash of Oneonta, NY, and Jodi Lepik of Mount Vision, NY; four grandchildren Maverik and Skylar Gargash, Olivia and Nolan Sperry; her sisters Dianna (Huseyin) Unver of Manchester Center, VT and Nina (Marc) Freund of Lindenhurst, NY; as well as many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the countryside in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Helios Care 297 River Street Oneonta, NY or to Susan G. Komen Foundation.  Online condolences may be made at:  www.wmaddenfh.com.   Arrangements by the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home 123 Main Street Unadilla.  A MADDEN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME.
