HOLSTEAD - DIX
Sidney — Muriel Mary (Wilson) Holstead Dix, 96, a proud Long Island woman, who lived for 54 years in Greater Oneonta, residing for the last twenty-one years in Sidney, entered life eternal on the 8th of December 2016 from her dear own home. Born in 1920 in the Bronx and raised in Valley Stream, New York, Muriel was an active church woman at Holy Trinity, Valley Stream; St. James, Oneonta; and St. Matthews, Unadilla. She loved the Episcopal Church and over the years Muriel taught Sunday School, served on the Altar Guild, was President of the Episcopal Church Women, Chaired the Untied Thank Offering, and was an active member of the Daughters of the King. A “cradle” Episcopalian she remained loyal and devout with a passion for Bible Study and reading the psalms, her favorite being Psalm 139. Muriel’s professional life started as a Clerk at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City and ended as the Office Manager and Bookkeeper at Bresee’s Oneonta Department Store. She loved to work both inside and outside the home. Muriel loved travel and meeting new people, socializing with friends and family and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. Having a great sense of humor and engaging personality, Muriel leaves many friends, especially Betsy and Richard, and now joins others who have gone before her who now rest in the sleep of peace. Muriel was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, Roland H. Holstead, who was a native Oneontan and by her second husband of 27 years, Peter Dix, a childhood friend who became a second love; two of her beloved sons, Dale Brent Holstead and Christopher Stephen Holstead; and an adored daughter, Muriel Ann Holstead-Moore. Muriel is survived by her son, Roland E. Holstead (Sharyn) of Springfield, Massachusetts, her daughter, Deborah Holstead Sager (Ronald) of Sidney, her daughter-in-law Lorraine (Ziegler) Holstead and son-in-law, Roger Moore, 8 cherished grandchildren and 14 treasured great grandchildren all of whom brought great joy to her.
