Of Unadilla

Unadilla: Lewis W. Sturgess, 84, resident since 1956 and former owner of Sturgess Pharmacy in Unadilla passed away on Tues. Dec. 22, 2015 at his home.  He was born on July 19, 1931 in Albany, NY to Earl J. & Erna Irene (Weatherwax) Sturgess.  He married the former, Erva Ellen Harper on Aug. 28, 1954 in Westfield, NY.   Lewis was a graduate of Altamont High School Class of 1948, Union University of ACP in 1953, appointed adjunct faculty of Albany College of Pharmacy in 1989 and owned and operated Sturgess Pharmacy from 1956 to 1996.  His memberships included, Unadilla United Methodist Church, former member, Past President, Paul Harris Fellow of Unadilla Rotary Club, former chairman of Rotary District 7170 Student Exchange  Program, member of the Unadilla Fire Dept. since 1958, serving as Treasurer, former Capt. of the Unadilla Emergency Squad, Past President and member of the Tri-Valley Pharmaceutical Assoc. and member of the Masonic Lodge.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Eva Ellen Sturgess, Unadilla, 2 sons, Kevin J. Sturgess & Mike Spears, Keller, TX, Keith A. Sturgess and his wife, Alexandra VonKamecker, Rotterdam, NY, 2 daughters & sons-in-law, Kathleen E. &  Andre Donald Quimet, Calif., Kelley S. & Rob Spencer, Versalles, Kentucky, 6 grandchildren, Heather & Christopher, Dylan & Katelyn, Amelia & Marlena, a sister, Jeanette S. Lamb, Louisa, VA and also several other family members.
