Of Unadilla

Kathleen B. Strain, 101 of Unadilla passed away Thurs. morning May 25, 2023 at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home.  She was born on Feb. 27, 1922 in Stamford, NY, daughter of Anthony & Florence (Collins) Barthelmess.  A longtime resident of Unadilla, she was a graduate of Unadilla Central School and Academy, Class of 1941.  She married Charles Strain on Jan. 31, 1942, he passed away in 1986.  She was also predeceased by her sons, Charles & Robert Strain and sons-in-law, Kenneth Bachman & David Hitchcock Sr.  Kathleen retired from Bendix Corp. (now Amphenol) in 1982.

Survived by daughters, Eileen Hitchcock and companion Peter Skoglund, Unadilla, Bonnie Bachman, Delhi, daughters-in-law, Brenda Strain, Windsor & Geraldine Strain of Unadilla, 11 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, several great grandchildren and  great great grandchildren.

Kathleen loved her home and for many years took pride in tending to her beautiful flower garden.  Kathleen was an avid reader especially western novels and enjoyed crocheting countless afghan blankets and doilies for family and friends. Her travels took her many places during retirement, but she especially loved the Florida beaches and for several years took vacations there with her family.  She would often reflect on those Florida memories as the best of times.

Graveside Services will be held in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla on Thurs. June 1, 2023 at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Diabetes Assoc.  (www.diabtetes.org).
