Unadilla:  Jean L. Slocum, 86 of Unadilla passed away Mon. Feb. 8, 2021 surrounded by her family.  Jean was born on October 6, 1934 in Ilion, NY to Harold & Elizabeth (Schaepe) Everson.  She grew up in Amsterdam, NY and following her high school education, she went on to Oneonta State Teachers College. While at college she met her future husband, Frank Slocum on a blind date.  Following  graduation in 1956, they married and moved to Unadilla. Jean taught several grades while teaching at the elementary school.  She retired in 1995.  Jean was very involved with her community, volunteering many years in the Fire Department Auxiliary, Unadilla Girl Scouts, United Methodist Church Board of Trustees, Unadilla Women’s Club, and with the Community Chest as Co-chairperson.  In 1998 Jean & Frank were honored with the Unadilla Good Neighbor Award for their many years of volunteering.  She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Frank, 2 daughters & son-in-law, Lory & Patrick van Lieshout, Durhamville, Catherine Slocum-Bell & Russell Rudes, Philadelphia, NY, 5 grandchildren, Mark (Janelle) van Lieshout, Megan (Joshua) Vanderhoof, Jessica van Lieshout, Connor Bell & Marissa White, Zachary Bell,  2 great grandchildren, Charlotte Vanderhoof  & Vivian van Lieshout, sister & brother-in-law, Mary & William Giles, Port St. Lucie, FL and also several nieces and nephews.    She was predeceased by her parents Harold & Elizabeth (Schaepe) Everson, 2 sisters Carol Burrell & Linda Everson.

Private Funeral Services will be held at the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home 123 Main Street Unadilla at the convenience of the family.  A Graveside Service will be held in the spring in Evergreen Hill Cemetery ON SAT. MAY 1, 2021 AT 2 P.M.  Rev. Roy Vandermark will officiate.  Memorial contributions may be made to: The Unadilla Community Chest,  PO Box 425, Unadilla NY 13849.
