James R. Chambers
Of Unadilla
James R. Chambers, 91, Co-owner of Chambers Auctions in Unadilla passed away Friday morning Sept. 16, 2022 at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford. He was born on Jan. 31, 1931 in Walton to the late, David & Mary (Little) Chambers. He married the former Erica Mueller at First Presbyterian Church in Unadilla on June 5, 1955, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his brother, John.
He is survived by his 2 sons, Rodney Chambers, Unadilla and David & Pamela Chambers, Unadilla, 2 grandchildren, Anna (Dustin) Hillis, E. Meredith, Cody (Cassandra) Chambers, Riverview, FL, 3 great grandchildren, Reed, Tanner & Camden, his siblings, Madeline Grader, Shirley Osterhoudt, Dotty McIntosh, Dale (Linda) Chambers, Linda Allen, Michael (Denise) Chambers and also several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Unadilla and an US Army Veteran of Korea. He was a Director of the Afton Fair Board for over 50 years. He was an avid Horse Puller and an All Star Athlete in High School. He was known as “the fastest football player in the area.” He also turned his own bat on a lathe in shop class in High School and hit many home runs with it.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church 156 Main St. Unadilla on Friday at 1 p.m. Rev. Lynn J. Shepard, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla. The family will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church on Fri. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to service.
