Obituary

Helen Nielson of Hughson, Calif., died June 19, 2020. Born Helen Allyce Spiegelberg on March 22, 1916 in Ladysmith, WI. She graduated from Mount Upton High School in the class of 1932, and worked as household help, a secretary, and laboratory technician in Binghamton, Norwich, and Mount Upton, NY.  In later years she served as Tax Collector for the Town of Guilford. She was active in volunteer work including as a Cub Scout leader and knitting hats and mittens for children in need. She was a longtime member of Saint Luke's Lutheran Church in Sidney, as well as the Community Church in Rockdale and Christ Lutheran Church in Norwich.  In 2004, after the death of her husband Donald Nielson (married 1958), she moved to Little Rock, AR to reside with family and later moved with them to Modesto, CA in 2008. In her later years she attended Covenant Presbyterian Church in Little Rock and Shelter Cove Community Church in Modesto.  She is survived by one son, Stephen Nielson (Lacey) of Modesto, CA; four grandchildren, Erica Krysztoff (Mike) and Lisa Miller (Ryan) of Reno, NV, and Stephanie Nielson and Robert Nielson (fiancee Ruthie) of Little Rock, AR; four great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends. She was also preceded in death by parents Theodore Spiegelberg and Mary Lybert Spiegelberg; stepson Norman Nielson; and sisters Elsie Van Dusen, Lydia Petley, and Edna Berndt.

Final resting place will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Upton, NY with services to be held at a later date.
