Donald Robert Holcomb passed away Monday December 30, 2024 at his Otego home, surrounded by a loving family. Donald was born to Charles and Doris Holcomb on May 18, 1953 in Oneonta, New York.  Donald married the love of his life, Charlan (Chapin) Holcomb, on June 23, 1979 in the United Methodist Church of Unadilla.  Donald was the beloved husband to Charlan, devoted father to Donna Burghardt and husband Mark, Doreen Bartczak and husband Jonathan, Desmond “Butch” Cummings and wife Orillia, Michael Holcomb and wife Merrie, Erica Burkhart and husband Eric, and Amanda Holcomb and fiancé Macon Wilson. He was proud “Papa" to Stephen, Jarrett, and Genna Burghardt, Sara (Michael) Hitt and Shane Bartczak, Devin, Morgan, and Kristin Holcomb, Olivia Cummings, and Kinslie and Karter Burkhart.  He was brother to Kathy Chapin and husband Mitchell, Linda LeBourveau, Homer, Gary, Richard, and Charles Holcomb and brother-in-law to Brenda Chapin-Strain, Nancy Chapin, Deborah Wade and Doris Holcomb. Don served in the United States Marine Corp from 1970-74 as an A/C Mechanic and Flight Engineer. In this time, he gained rank of Sergeant while earning several medals and commendations. He worked as a machinist and group leader at Amphenol Corp. in Sidney for nearly 35 years.  He was a lifelong resident of Otego where he was an active part of the community.  His passion for the outdoors and sports were like no other, you could find him hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, on a softball field, riding his doodle bug, coaching, bowling, playing pool, or at the golf course. Don led by example, often in an officer or leadership role. Don proudly served as Commander for the American Legion in Franklin. He was guitarist/vocals with the 'Only ‘Ole Country' band where he enjoyed playing music with his closest friends. The last 10 years he divided his time between West Palm Beach, FL and Otego.  Don was personable, well-liked and respected by many and made friends wherever he went.
