Diane J. Ford, a beloved member of the Unadilla community passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at her residence. Born on June 11, 1943, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Diane was the daughter of William T. and Wanda Johnston.
Diane is survived and deeply missed by her devoted husband, Bernie, with whom she shared a loving 30-year marriage. She is also cherished by her children, Francis (Allison) Phelps, Glenolden, Pennsylvania; Megan (Ronald) Allen, Milton, Washington; and her stepchildren, Steve (Whitney) Ford, Diane (Michael) Thornton, and Leslie (Duane) Ford.
Diane’s memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her grandchildren, Payton, Killian, Amanda, and Alexa; her brother Ted and sister-in-law Nan Johnston; and several nieces and nephews.
Diane cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, sharing special moments like teaching them how to make her famous deviled eggs, building s’mores at the tree house, and strolling through the vibrant tulip fields in Washington. She loved flying adventures and Sunday morning breakfasts with the love of her life, her husband Bernie. Diane’s free time was often spent on shopping trips to expand her cherished bear collection.
Known for her kindness, generosity, and selflessness, Diane was not only a loving family member but also a mentor, teacher, and inspiring friend to many.
Diane graduated from Edmeston Central School and pursued her education further at Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee. After graduating from Bethel University, she dedicated many years to teaching. Starting her career as a sixth-grade teacher, she later retired as a first-grade teacher from Unadilla Elementary School, leaving a lasting impact on her students and colleagues alike.
Funeral services will take place at the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home, located at 123 Main Street, Unadilla, NY on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. Rev. Brandilynne Craver will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillington Cemetery in Morris at a later date.
The family will welcome friends at Westcott-Madden Funeral Home on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m.
