Diana Lynn Eccleston, 66 of Unadilla, beloved Mother and Grandmother gained her angel wings on May 19th after a long unknown battle with cancer. Diane was born to Ruth and George Matthews on September 21st 1954. She grew up in New Berlin, New York and Graduated in 1972. Diane spent years raising her two boys David (Scotty) Eccleston and James (Jimmy) Eccleston with love and devotion. Her boys were her world, her pride and joy. Diane worked at the Big M and Preferred Mutual as her children grew and excelled in school and sports. Although Diane was a busy single mom, she was always there for her boys and instilled love and strong family values in both of them. In later years Diane worked as a teacher's aide at Laurens Central School where she formed special bonds with many students and faculty.
For the last decade Diane spent much of her time enjoying her grandchildren, and watching them grow. She loved having them over for sleepovers, campouts and BBQs. Her grandbabies will have many great memories to cherish for years to come. From birthday parties, little league and basketball games, there was very few Diane missed as a mom as well as a grandma.
Diane was a fiercely independent woman “One Tough Cookie” who was determined to live life to the fullest. She always brought joy and happiness to those around her. Diane taught us even with great sadness in life, you still keep your head held high and love life, every minute, every day. Most of all her compassion, caring and wisdom will live on like a legacy of love that will always be with many. Diane will be greatly missed.
Diane was finally reunited with her Son David (Scotty) and her loving mother, Ruth Parker. Diane leaves behind many to cherish her memory including her Son James, Daughter in-law Danielle, and 3 grandchildren, Madison Lynn (Buttercup), Allison Marie (Peanut), and Gibson David (Her prince charming). She is also survived by her 3 sisters, Tina, Vickie and Deb along with numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends and family.
Legacy of Love
“A Mother, a sister, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a mom, not just as a grandmother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep
Your love in our hearts, we will eternally keep.”
