Derrick John Talbot

Derrick John Talbot Sr., 68, of Laurens, New York, passed away at his home on Wed. February 4, 2026.

Derrick was born on December 14, 1957, in Herkimer, New York, the son of Richard Wayne Talbot and Alice Peterson, who both preceded him in death.

Derrick spent 39 years working in the waste management industry with Vets and Casella Waste. His strong work ethic led him to pursue various ventures throughout his life, including apartment ownership, restaurant ownership, landscaping, and his own handyman work.

Over his lifetime, Derrick enjoyed working with his hands — fixing up cars, taking on carpentry projects, hunting, and spending time at the range for target practice. While in his final years his health limited his ability to be as active as he once was, his determination and spirit remained. He enjoyed joking around, sharing stories, and spending time with those he loved. His presence, humor, and dedication will be deeply missed.

Derrick is survived by his sons, Derrick (Jessica) Talbot and Jared Talbot (fiancée Elizabeth), and his beloved grandchildren, Colbie, Benjamin, Norah, and Wesley Talbot.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
