Paul Douglas Danforth passed away peacefully at the Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta NY on Monday, July 10, 2017 at the age of 97. He was born November 5, l919 to Everett and Anna Cooper Danforth at the family farm in Jefferson, NY. 

 

After completing a 2 year poultry course at Cobleskill Ag & Tech, he applied farming skills with his brother George for 13 years. A desire for further education led him to Park College in Missouri and Pittsburgh University School of Social Work. He moved to Lancaster, PA where he married Eunice Mae Lovatt, whom he met at Park. She predeceased him in August 23, 2007 after 49 years of marriage.

 

He is survived by two sons, Brian (Prudence), Unadilla, NY and Stephen (Patricia Thatcher), Dallas, PA, grandchildren Drew (Danielle) Danforth, Ballston Spa, NY and Patricia Danforth, Unadilla and great grandson Henrik Danforth. He was predeceased by sisters Eloise Weaver, Grace Davenport, Alice Danforth, Julia Foote, Marge Dayton and brother George Danforth.

 

His main career was in social work for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation for 20 years, custodian for the Iris Club for nine years, group home aide and Service Master. He volunteered at the clothing bank, Boy Scouts of America and Troop 25, the Lancaster Historical Society, recognized for 3300 hours on Contact phone hotline, 6th Ward board of elections and was an active member of Lancaster First Presbyterian church for over fifty years.

 

Family and friends were very important to him. Many summers were spent tent camping at state and national parks all over the country, touring China, New Zealand and Australia, attending family reunions, shoveling snow for the neighborhood and offering free advice.

 

Per his wishes he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held in September at the Unadilla Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Conestoga Memorial Garden in Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to Park University (General Scholarship Fund), 8700 N.W.
