William Kinsella Obituary

William John Kinsella of Unadilla, NY, passed away on February 7, 2024, surrounded by family following a short battle with cancer.  William was born on March 25, 1938, the son of George and Inger (Mogensen) Kinsella, in Brooklyn, NY.  William joined the US Marines in 1956, serving until 1958. He then met the love of his life, Barbara Nisbet, and they married on November 21, 1959. Shortly after their marriage Bill and Barbara moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland, returning to Unadilla in 1974. Bill and Barbara owned and operated The Deer Head Inn in Wells Bridge from 1974 to 2005. Bill also worked for Unalam in Sidney, NY, from 1980 to 2002 where he is known for transporting one of the longest manufactured glulam beams in 1998 (173+ feet) from Sidney to Downsville to refurbish the 144-year-old covered bridge. In 2007, Bill and Barbara started Kinsella Certified Escorts where they traveled all over the United States. They were also a part of the Sidney Boat Club in Sylvan Beach where they spent many weekends together with friends and family making memories with their fifth wheel and on their boat.  William is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sheri Kinsella, his daughter, Cynthia Kinsella, his daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Eric Nissen and his grandchildren; Robert Kinsella (Clara Owczykowski), Kailey (Billy) Barse, Emily Kinsella, Michaela (David) McClenon, and Monica Hurlburt (Shane Pierce). He is also survived by one great granddaughter, Brayleigh Barse, with two more expected to arrive in June. He is also survived by his very special significant other, Sharon Wickes, who made all his days brighter from the first day they met. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Kinsella. as well as his brother George (MaryPat) Kinsella and sisters Elizabeth (Jim) Westcott and Marion (Tony) Streifeneder.

There will be a private burial service in the Spring/Summer for the family. Donations may be made in his memory to the Evergreen Hill Cemetery  POB 764 Unadilla, NY13849.
