Of Unadilla

Herman E. Bernhardt Jr., 90 of Unadilla passed away on Friday,  June 24, 2016 at his home.  He was born on June 28, 1925 to Herman E. & Anna M. (Freehill) Bernhardt in Spring Valley, NY.  He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Judy (Conrow), Unadilla, a daughter, Patricia D. (David) Laube, Pittsfield, ME and a son, H. Edward Bernhardt III, Fitchburg, WI.  Five grandchildren, Jennifer, Elizabeth & Rebecca Laube, Alexander & Austin Bernhardt.  Also two stepdaughters, Angela (Matthew) Bassano, Milford, CT and Amy Oliver, Afton.  Five step grandchildren, Clare & Jacob Bassano, Eric, Corey & Ashley Oliver, a sister, Frances L. Mello, Portsmouth, RI and several nieces and nephews.

 He was predeceased by his daughter, Sue Ann Bernhardt.  He was also predeceased by his sisters, Anne F. Pike, Mary L. Kallman, & Agnes Caswell and brother, Edward F. Bernhardt.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church Sidney, Rotary International, a Paul Harris Fellow, Institute of Industrial Engineers, Senior member of American Society for Quality Control, Senior member of the Community Foundation, Unadilla, and the Sidney American Legion.  He was an US ARMY Veteran of WW II.

A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, July 1st at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla with military honors.  The family will receive friends at the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home 123 Main St. Unadilla on Thursday, June 30th from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Delaware County Humane Society  101 Main Street Sidney, NY 13838.  On-line condolences may be made at:   www.wmaddenfh.com.
